Anorexia is characterized by control and attention to details. Those who suffer from Anorexia often are anxious and restrained, and demand unrealistic “perfection” from themselves. Bulimia is characterized by a lack of control. Those who suffer from Bulimia are often impulsive, and attempt to regain control by purging.
There is not one single cause of an eating disorder, and the etiology is different for everyone. It can be caused by low self-esteem, stress, abuse, social pressures, depression, etc., and can be triggered by a stress related event. Examples of this are an important birthday, a comment about one’s weight/looks, a wedding or a holiday.
