"Be not afraid of life. Believe that life is worth living, and your belief will help create the fact." -William James

Brian Swope, MFT is a therapist specializing in seeing a client's stated issues as part of a system - the world where one lives.

Helping clients to rediscover and utilize his/her strengths in dealing with the difficulties one faces while also working to challenge external factors by helping the client to interact with the issue differently are his ultimate goals in therapy. To do this, clients will need to determine the goals of therapy, find the right balance of responsibility in the situation presented, and then, through therapy, develop the tools and understanding necessary to realize these goals.

Brian works with people in relationships - dating, pre-marital, married or considering separation - regardless of sexual orientation or the number of people in the relationship. Relationships also exist with yourself, family, peers, work, religion or culture.

He specializes in pre-marital counseling, depression and anxiety, sexuality issues and systemic issues, with attention paid to multiculturalism.  His sex therapy training focuses on the issues of sexuality and of arousal, desire and orgasm.

Brian works using a variety of disciplines to bring a new perspective to the difficulties that his clients face. He provides a therapeutic environment that is free of judgement and safe for his clients to make progress toward their desired goals.

Brian received his Master's Degree in Couple and Family Therapy from Thomas Jefferson University with a concentration in Sex Therapy.

He integrated his studies with in-the-field work as an intern for the Council for Relationships, West Philadelphia, and the Institute for Sex Therapy, Center City Philadelphia. Additionally, Brian volunteered as a peer counselor at the William Way Center.

Brian is also a certified alignment-based hatha yoga teacher and can incorporate principles of yoga and mindfulness into the larger therapy work he does.

Recommended books you might find helpful in working with Brian include: "Love Languages", "Full Catastrophe Living", "The New Male Sexuality", and "I Thought It Was Just Me But It Wasn't: Making the Journey from 'What Will People Think?' to 'Am I Enough".
